Industry Insight

When working on an architectural project, selecting the right casework solutions is a critical decision that goes beyond mere aesthetics. It involves understanding the unique dynamics of each space and its intended function.

At HWI Custom Interiors, our expertise spans over four decades, during which we have mastered the art of blending functionality with style in our casework designs.

When we work with architects, project managers and contractors, our goal is not just to fill spaces with cabinetry but to transform them into more efficient and enjoyable environments.

In this blog, we share our insights into the process behind choosing the right casework and cabinetry solutions that ensures your architectural project is finished on time and on budget.

Understanding Casework Needs

The diversity in architectural casework applications is vast, and each setting demands different considerations.

Whether it’s the durable efficiency required in a bustling medical center corridor, or an inspiring design aesthetic needed for a modern creative workspace, the first step is to consider the uses and demands of each environment.

For example, factors such as the anticipated wear and tear, the spatial dynamics of the area, and the user interaction significantly influence casework selection.

Our approach at HWI involves a detailed analysis of these factors to ensure that our solutions not only fit physically but also resonate with the functional rhythm of the space.

Material Selection

electing the right materials is crucial for ensuring the durability and visual appeal of casework. As casework experts, we can recommend the right materials that can optimise both the aesthetics and the functionality of your space.

During our project with a prominent Chevrolet dealership in Papillon, Nebraska, for instance, we took a 360-degree view of the project to recommend both value-engineered yet premium materials.

After considering the layout and the natural illumination of the space, finally we selected Wilsonart’s Kensington Maple laminate for its warm wood tones that harmonize beautifully with the light-filled environment.

Anodized Aluminum Strips were used to subtly accent the spaces between the wall panels, enhancing the natural aesthetic without overwhelming it. To maintain this clean, uncluttered look, we also installed Rev-A-Shelf waste pullouts to manage trash efficiently.

We take great pride in guiding our clients through a variety of material options, each with detailed specifications about durability, maintenance, and sustainability. This process ensures that every piece of casework is not only a visual delight but also a long-term investment.

Design Integration

Integrating casework into the overall design scheme of a project requires a nuanced understanding of both the architectural aesthetics and the client’s vision. This integration is crucial in creating a seamless and cohesive environment.

Our design team at HWI collaborates closely with architects and interior designers, from the initial sketches to the final installation, to guarantee that every piece of casework complements the broader design objectives.

We discuss everything from the color palettes to the textural contrasts, ensuring that the casework is a hero, not a hindrance, in the architectural narrative.

Customization Capabilities

Customization stands at the core of HWI’s operations. It’s here that our capabilities truly shine—whatever your project space requires, our creative and expert team is ready to find solutions.

Our project for Boys Town Clinic is a prime example, where custom casework was needed to foster a sense of comfort and tranquillity for patients and families, children in particular. Simultaneously, the project required a casework design that would optimize efficiency, productivity and ease of workflow.

To achieve this, our design approach was grounded in collaboration and communication, aligning closely with the client’s vision and requirements.

Through frequent engagement and feedback, we tailored custom casework for Boys Town Clinic to meet their specific needs, from a welcoming reception area to functional nurse stations.

The result was a successful project that not only met but exceeded expectations, delivering on-time installation, staying within budget, and providing a comfortable, functional space for staff and patients.
